Thus, he stated that this option would also include an autonomous Palestinian authority responsible for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, although he acknowledged that it is “very far from that.” The German Chancellor stressed that the most important thing at the moment is “to achieve a long-term ceasefire” in Gaza and “for all parties involved to commit to the two-state solution.”
Scholz has highlighted that the Arab countries in the region have been working in recent months to guarantee security in the Middle East and has elaborated that the path of “symbolic recognition of statehood” would not lead any further, as has picked up by the German news agency DPA.
