The main spokesman for the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, in Berlin, has acknowledged that the ‘Quiet on the Front’ awards can also be understood as a “political signal” in a context marked by the development of the Russian military offensive on Ukraine, according to the DPA agency.
Culture Minister Claudia Roth, who traveled to Los Angeles to attend the ceremony, is confident the awards will attract “worldwide attention” for German cinema. Roth has also recognized that it is “the right movie at the right time” in view of the “criminal attack” launched by Russia.
‘All Quiet Front’ is the fourth German film to receive the Oscar reserved for foreign films and, in addition, it was among the ten candidates for best film at a general level. It also won the awards for best photography, best original music and best production design.
