The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has assured during a call to the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, that Germany will continue to support them in a “continuous and unwavering” way.
“Our continued and unwavering support for Ukraine is assured for as long as it is necessary. I have just assured Zelensky of this in a phone call. Together we call for the extension of the grain agreement in view of the world food situation,” Scholz said. on his Twitter account.
Zelensky thanked the chancellor for the help provided and assured that they have taken “important steps” towards the implementation of the Ukrainian peace plan, in addition to informing him about the progress of the Ukrainian summer offensive.
“I spoke to Chancellor Scholz today. Germany has helped Ukraine with air defense in a very powerful way. The brilliant German IRIS-T systems have proven very effective in protecting our skies. We also have very effective American Patriots, which have been delivered by Germany. Ukraine is grateful for them, as well as for the rest of the vital assistance!” Zelensky said in a speech.
Regarding the country’s air defense, the Ukrainian president has assured that the country “still does not have enough high-quality air defense systems to protect the entire territory and shoot down all enemy targets. The enemy is taking advantage of this, as he did today, when he launched another terrorist attack in the city of Sumy with an Iranian drone, (…) As a result of these attacks, there are injuries and deaths”.
“The goal is that the Ukrainian sky shield can protect our entire territory from Russian terror and in the future become the basis for the European sky shield. This is absolutely necessary and absolutely possible,” Zelensky added.
In addition, he has assured that Russia will try to “give a bite to Europe” at the very moment in which they discover “some type of uncertainty” in terms of security.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian president has reported that the Ukrainian Army has been able to shoot down “more than 180 planes, more than 130 helicopters, about 40 ballistic missiles, more than a thousand cruise missiles and more than 1,600 drones.”
