( Spanish) — On Sunday, April 30, more than 4 million citizens of Paraguay will be able to vote in the general elections.
From 07:00 am to 04:00 pm, local time, Paraguayans who have reached 18 years of age will vote to elect the next President and Vice President of the Republic; 45 titular senators and 30 substitute senators; 80 titular deputies and 80 substitute deputies; 17 governors; and 257 full members and another 257 alternate members for departmental boards.
Both Paraguayans who live within the national territory, as well as abroad, must present their current or expired identity card in order to vote. However, Paraguayans residing in Argentina, Brazil, the United States or Spain, may also use their current passport as a valid electoral document, according to Art. 208 of the Electoral Code from Paraguay.
Unlike the nationals who reside in Paraguay, who live abroad just over 41,000 people, according to figures of the Electoral Justice of the Republic of Paraguay – may only vote to elect the office of president and vice president of Paraguay, as well as senators. In addition, they must be registered in the Permanent Civic Registry of foreigners (RCPe), to vote in the aforementioned elections
Voting hours in Argentina, Brazil and the US are from 07:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m., and in Spain from 10:00 a.m. to 08:00 p.m.
On April 30, go to the corresponding headquarters and follow the steps below to vote:
- Present your civil identity card to the members of the polling station, who will give you the bulletin signed by the two members.
- Place the ballot in the slot of the voting machine.
- Select the candidates of your preference shown on the screen. Once you have made your choice, click confirm.
- Once the bulletin is printed, verify that the electronic record of your vote matches the printed version, bringing the bulletin closer to the verifying reader.
- Fold the bulletin in such a way as to ensure the secrecy of the vote.
- Give it to the table president to sign it.
- Ink the index finger of your right hand, receive the bulletin from the table president and deposit it in the ballot box.
- Pick up your civil identity card.
The Government of Paraguay makes available the accessible votingwhich includes the options vote at homevoting in preferential order, assisted voting, voting at an accessible table, voting with a Braille template, and access to the consultation table that is available at all polling places.
