Saudi Arabia's foreign minister will travel to Iran on Saturday, according to Iranian media

June 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan will make an official visit to Iran on Saturday after the two countries signed an agreement in March to restore their relations, broken in 2016, as reported by the Iranian media.

According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Bin Farhan will lead a delegation that will participate in “meetings” with senior Iranian officials, while the reopening of the Saudi Embassy in the capital, Tehran, is also expected.

Iran reopened its diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of June in line with the agreement signed in March –reached with the mediation of China– to restore relations, broken after the attack on the Embassy in Tehran and the Consulate in Mashhad during the protests for the execution of the Shiite priest Nimr al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia.

The regional rapprochement has also led to the reincorporation of Syria into the Arab League and the advancement of a peace process between the internationally recognized Yemeni authorities and the Houthis rebels in the context of the war unleashed in 2015 in Yemen, where the two countries supported opposing sides.
