Saudi Arabia rules out normalizing relations with Israel after Netanyahu's words at the UN

September 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan, has ruled out normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel after the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has summoned Riyadh before the United Nations General Assembly to advance regional integration under the Abraham Accords.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu, in a rather long statement, has not once mentioned Palestine. Not once has he mentioned the Palestinians and that is exactly the problem,” he stressed in statements to the press from New York.

The Saudi Foreign Minister has highlighted that “without addressing” the issue of the establishment of the Palestinian State it will not be possible to achieve “regional peace and stability.” “And that will certainly open the horizon, not only for normalization, but also for integration,” he added.

This comes after Netanyahu has assured the Assembly that to achieve peace in the Middle East it is necessary to continue along the path marked by the Abraham Accords, which aim to normalize Israel’s relations with the Arab States, including Saudi Arabia, to whom the prime minister has appealed due to his absence in the room.

The agreement with Riyadh, he stressed, will not only “boost the security and economy of both countries” but also that of the entire region. “It will turn the Middle East into a world power (…) I am sure that this peace will be a true milestone in history, it will be the harbinger of a historic reconciliation,” he said.

“We have decided to promote the blessing. We are creating alliances with our Arab neighbors while we fight against the forces of terror that threaten that peace,” he said at another point in his speech, in which he extended his hand to the governments of the region to work towards a Gaza Strip without the existence of Hamas and with a government in favor of peaceful coexistence.
