Saudi Arabia proposes hosting an Arab-Islamic summit to address the situation in the region

MADRID 31 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Saudi Arabia proposed this Wednesday to host a new Arab-Islamic summit on November 11 with a view to addressing the situation in the Middle East, due to the Israeli bombings against the Palestinian territories, where more than 43,000 people have died since a year ago, and the expansion of the conflict to Lebanon, where the deaths of more than 2,800 Lebanese have been recorded.

This initiative is a continuation of the efforts made by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in coordination with leaders of other Arab and Islamic countries and as an extension of the joint summit held on November 11, 2023, which aimed to discuss the war. in Gaza, according to a statement collected by the Saudi news agency SPA.

Riyadh has taken the opportunity to reaffirm its condemnation and denunciation of the “crimes and violations being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people, apart from the continued Israeli attacks and violations against the people of Lebanon”, in light of ” “the assessment of the current situation in the region, the continuation of the wicked Israeli aggression in the occupied Palestinian territories, and its expansion to include Lebanon in an attempt to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The conflict in Lebanon broke out on October 8, 2023, after Hezbollah began launching projectiles into Israeli territory a day after attacks carried out by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which left about 1,200 dead. dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.

Israel responded by launching a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip – which has left more than 43,000 Palestinians dead to date, in addition to more than 750 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem – which led Hezbollah to launch its attacks to open another front in northern Israel in support of the Palestinian “resistance”, triggering a conflict that remains open.

The Israeli Army unleashed a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after several weeks of intense bombings and attacks against the country, including the coordinated explosion of thousands of communication devices, after more than eleven months of fighting with Hezbollah in the border area. .
