The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia has expressed this Tuesday its “support” and “approval” for the African Union to go from being a permanent guest of the G20 to a full member of this international forum, in which South Africa participates.
“The Ministry expresses its ambition to accept the accession of the African Union due to its importance to the challenges we face today, such as climate change, the slowdown in the economy, the danger of debt and the uneven recovery from the pandemic. of COVID-19,” he said in a statement.
Likewise, the Saudi Foreign Ministry has indicated in said statement that it hopes to strengthen its relations with the African Union, as well as “advance” in bilateral cooperation in all those aspects considered of “mutual interest”.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has already called for including the African Union during a speech at the bloc’s November 2022 summit in Bali, Indonesia. “All countries must replace division with unity, confrontation with cooperation, and exclusion with inclusion,” he stressed.
