The Government of Saudi Arabia has condemned this Wednesday the continuous “genocidal massacres” of the Israeli Army and its attacks against camps for displaced Palestinians in the city of Rafá, in the south of the Gaza Strip, which have left more than 70 dead since The last Sunday.
“(Saudi Arabia) condemns and denounces in the strongest terms that the Israeli occupation forces continue to commit genocidal massacres against the Palestinian people without deterrence, by continuing to attack the tents of the defenseless Palestinian refugees in Rafah, and the Israeli authorities are fully responsible of what is happening in Rafah and in all the occupied Palestinian territories,” reads a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry published on its X social network account.
Riyadh has also warned that the “flagrant violations” of both international and humanitarian resolutions and laws by Israel, supported by “the silence of the international community”, are worsening the already serious humanitarian crisis and “put at stake the credibility “of the system of international relations.
This is why Saudi Arabia has urged the international community to “assume its responsibilities” to end “the massacres against the brother Palestinian people” and to hold those responsible “accountable.”
It should be noted that Saudi Arabia and Israel are in a process of normalizing diplomatic relations that was slowed by the attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, which left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages, and the subsequent Israeli offensive. on the Gaza Strip, which has caused the death of almost 36,100 Palestinians.
Before the start of the conflict in the enclave, Israeli authorities claimed to be “on the verge” of a “historic” agreement with Riyadh. The Saudi crown prince himself, Mohamed Bin Salmán, acknowledged on September 21, 2023 that the possible normalization “is getting closer and closer”, although this had as a precondition the recognition of the Palestinian State on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
