Saudi Arabia announces a new aid package to Ukraine after criticism for its rapprochement with Russia

Oct. 15 () –

The Government of Saudi Arabia has announced a new package of humanitarian aid to Ukraine valued at 400 million dollars, days after the US president, Joe Biden, publicly accused Riyadh of allying himself politically with Moscow by favoring a cut in the production of Petroleum.

The Saudi crown prince, Mohamed bin Salmán, spoke on Friday with the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, and conveyed to him Riyadh’s willingness to favor any initiative that favors a reduction in tensions. He also confirmed an additional aid package, which “will help alleviate the suffering of Ukrainian citizens,” according to the official SPA agency.

The President of Ukraine, Volodomir Zelenski, has also confirmed this aid and has thanked Saudi Arabia for its support for Ukraine’s “territorial integrity”, specifically pointing out its support for the motion of the UN General Assembly that condemned the annexation of several regions by Russia.

“We agreed to remain in contact for the release of prisoners of war,” Zelensky said. In September, the Saudi authorities confirmed Bin Salman’s mediation in a prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine.
