June 29 (Portaltic/EP) –
He Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has expressed his dissatisfaction with regard to video game exclusives with compatibility for a single console, opining that it “would love” to get rid of thembut which is its main competitor, Sony, who has defined this competition from the market when using them.
The statements of the CEO of the parent company of Xbox are framed within the trial that is taking place these days of the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) v. Microsoftwhere it is about clarifying whether the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft would cause unfair competition in the video game market.
In this sense, when asked about the exclusive video game titles for Xbox, the CEO of Microsoft has indicated that he “would love” to get rid of all console exclusivesas you may have known The Verge.
However, as Nadella has added, the decision to remove exclusives is not up to him, because it’s “a low-share player in the console market.” In this sense, he has detailed that he is “the dominant player” -in reference to sony– who has defined market competition using exclusives. “So that’s the world we live in. I have no sympathy for that world,” she said.
These statements are preceded by some PlayStation boss Jim Ryan claims who also participated in the FTC’s lawsuit against Microsoft on Wednesday. In his statement, admitted that some Xbox exclusive titles like Stardfield are not anti-competitive. And he pointed out that, in his opinion, it is not convenient for Microsoft that the games of the Call of Duty developer are available on various platforms.
On the other hand, Ryan claimed that “it would be better” if Microsoft kept Activision games available on PlayStation. However, he was also asked what he would do if he were the director of Xbox, and if he would recommend that Activision Blizzard games be exclusive to this console and PC. In this regard, Ryan has transferred that this is a “hypothetical question” who does not want to answer because He claims he does not have “sufficient knowledge”.
In addition to all this, the director of PlayStation transferred that the Publishers say Xbox Game Pass service “destroys value” of video games and, therefore, it is important that Sony “invest massively in development”, in order to gain an advantage over the competition.
This trial is taking place after the FTC request to US courts that they will block the purchase agreement between the maker of Xbox and Activision Blizard with a temporary restraining order.
After that, a US federal court issued said temporary restraining order that blocked the purchase valued at 68,700 million dollars (around 63,575 million euros at current exchange rates). Now, Microsoft is appearing in an evidentiary hearing to defend the purchase against the FTC.
