Samsung launches the Odyssey Ark in Spain, an immersive 55-inch gaming monitor with a price of more than 3,000 euros

Approximately eight months ago, Samsung unveiled the colossal Odyssey Ark as part of its novelties for CES 2022. This huge monitor has been designed to be used horizontally or vertically (at the time Samsung decided to emphasize the latter), providing nothing more and a whopping 55 inches with 1000R curvature to create a truly immersive gaming (or work) station. Now it begins its global deployment, with a stop in Spain.

To recap a bit, the Samsung Odyssey Ark is a 55-inch 4K monitor with a Mini LED backlight and a film of quantum dots to enhance the vividness of colors. The company has not disclosed the specific type of integrated panel, but we do know that it provides a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 (with a total of 16,384 levels of black), a GTG response time of 1 millisecond and a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz compatible with FreeSync Premium Pro.

The great peculiarity of the Odyssey Ark is not found in its technical specifications, however, but in the fact that despite its enormous size it can be placed vertically or “cabin mode”, as Samsung calls it. In this way it is possible to section the screen into the equivalent of three stacked monitors for multitasking management very different from traditional split screen modes.

Other interesting details of this monitor are the use of an audio system with six speakers (four medium and two woofers), the presence of a solar-charged remote control to access the settings and the One Connect Box module, an external box with four HDMI 2.1 connectors, which unfortunately cannot be used to display four video sources simultaneously using the mode of horizontal split screen.

According to Samsung, the reserves of the Odyssey Ark are already open and its commercialization should take place in the short term. The Spanish subsidiary has not provided local prices, but computer base has been able to confirm that in Germany the PVP will be 3,459 euros, so it can be expected that the Spanish rate will be the same or very similar.
