Samsung launches its BM1743 SSD with 61.44 TB capacity for servers



He Samsung BM1743 is he new SSD for data centers and servers of the Korean company with a capacity of nothing more and nothing less than 61.44 TB. It debuts its seventh generation QLC V-NAND technology or “v7 QLC NAND”.

The BM1743 is launched in U.2 format with PCI Express 4.0 x4 connection, and is capable of reaching a sequential and random speed of 7,200 MB/s read and 1,600,000 IOPS respectively. The writing speed is lower, staying at 2,000 MB/s and 110,000 IOPS respectively.

These SSDs are geared towards tasks that require fast access to data, rather than environments where it is necessary to write data to disk at high speed. For example, Artificial Intelligence systems or servers to offer multimedia content.

The company has also assured that the BM1743 will be launched in E3.S format with PCI Express 5.0 x4 interface with greater performance for those cases where it is necessary. Even so, the speeds that could be achieved with this interface have not yet been revealed. If we take into account that the U.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 version does not cover the entire writing bandwidth by far, we will probably find improvements in writing speeds.

Also, if the 61.77 TB capacity seems little to you, the company has already confirmed that This v7 QLC V-NAND technology will allow them to create SSDs with twice the space, with 122.88 TB of capacity.
