The technology Samsung Dex He has been with us for a few years now. It is the Korean firm’s proposal to turn its smartphones into computers by connecting them, either by cable or wirelessly, to an external screen.

In addition to this mode with which our mobile phone became a regular computer and that we can use with an external mouse and keyboard, Samsung Dex also has an application for Windows that allows you to control and use your mobile phone in Dex mode as if it were a remote computer. . We have used it occasionally and the user experience is very good.

Unfortunately, Starting with OneUI 7, Samsung will disable the Dex feature for Windows. The company has specified it in its website dedicated to Dex, where you can read:

DeX for PC on Windows operating system will no longer be supported with One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect a mobile phone and PC via the Link to Windows feature.

Instead, the company will focus on the Microsoft app “Mobile Link” or “Phone Link”. This application, although it is available for all Android devices, has exclusive functions on Samsung smartphones, so it can greatly replace the use of Dex on Windows by also being able to run applications on the PC.

However, a big part of the “grace” of Dex on Windows was the ability to adapt mobile applications to a PC screen format. At least for now, Enlace Móvil shows the applications only in vertical mode (unless we turn the smartphone at the same time, making the experience much inferior to that of Dex on Windows.

We will see if the company adapts what Dex offered to the Microsoft system for the future.
