Finally revealed in all its fullness, however small it may be, the Galaxy Ring is a new twist on the concept of wearables, offering a watch with quantification functions aimed at the user’s health and well-being. Made from titanium alloy and available in three colours within a range of nine sizes, the Galaxy Ring weighs just 2.3 to 3 grams and will provide six to seven days of battery life depending on the size chosen.
Its concave design hides a huge engineering effort when it comes to packaging the internal components, which include a sensor that can monitor sleep quality (with control of movements, latency, and heart and breathing rates) and the menstrual cycle, a task that it performs by monitoring the nighttime temperature of the skin. Its surfaces, together with the ring’s charging pins, are protected with a layer of epoxy resin.
The Galaxy Ring connects via Bluetooth LE 5.4 to your mobile phone (Android 11 or higher with a Samsung Health account) and does not replace per se The watch does not complement the company’s smartwatches, but rather complements them by providing additional information. In any case, it is also useful when it comes to monitoring the wearer’s vital signs, being able to send alerts when it detects excessively high or low heart rates.
Also interesting is the possibility of deactivating alarms and being able to use the ring as a remote shutter release for the mobile phone camera using a double-pinch gesture.
The Galaxy Ring will be released in limited quantities, arriving first on July 24 in a small number of countries, not including Spain. Its price in Germany (which usually gives the approximate RRP for the rest of Europe) will be 449 euros. As a curiosity, Samsung recommends that potential buyers wear a test ring for at least 24 hours to check that they have chosen the correct size.
