26 Aug. (Portaltic/EP) –

Samsung Electronics has developed in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation the prototype of an intelligent toilet that boasts of being especially hygienic and ecological.

In 2011, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation launched, through its ‘Water, Sanitation and Hygiene’ program, the challenge of reinvent the toilet. Its objective was to promote the development of new technologies for the safe and effective management of human waste, as explained on your website.

The institution maintains that the initiative aims to change the lives of the 3,500 million people around the world who lack adequate hygienic conditions to access this service.

The South Korean technology company has picked up the gauntlet of the institution and the Samsung Institute of Advanced Technology (SAITfor its acronym in English) has dedicated the last three years to the development of a prototype of an intelligent toilet, according to it’s a statement.

This toilet claims to be energy efficient. Likewise, its system allows the use of completely recycled water. On the one hand, it dehydrates, dries and burns solid waste. On the other hand, it treats the liquids through a biological purification process.

Samsung has also developed heat treatment and bioprocessing technologies to eliminate pathogens present in human waste. The company ensures that, thanks to all these characteristics, its prototype is safe for use within the domestic environment.

The South Korean company now plans to offer free and royalty-free patent licenses related to its project to developing countries during the commercialization phase.

Samsung has added that it will continue to work closely with the foundation to help move these technologies into mass production. In this sense, both organizations will collaborate to identify partners willing to market it after polishing the design for mass production.
