samsung has celebrated the tenth anniversary of the ‘Technology with Purpose’ programan initiative with which it has invested more than 25 million euros in this time for the development of different projects in areas such as culture, employability, education and accessibility, in order to generate an impact on society that breaks barriers through technology.
The 30 projects developed during this time have directly benefited 491,000 people in Spain, with an investment of more than 25 million euros, according to the data of the social impact analysis report carried out by PWC. All of them have been developed locally, with teams and resources from the country.
“Thanks to this report on the social impact of Technology with a Purpose, we can highlight indicators that make us especially excited, such as, for example, that we have managed to help almost half a million people and that, of them, almost 70% are young people and children“, highlighted the president of Samsung Electronics Iberia, Ick Soo Choi, during his speech at the event, held this Wednesday at the Museo Nacional del Prado.
The director of Marketing & E-Commerce of Samsung Electronics Iberia, Alfonso Fernández, has indicated that “the challenge for the coming years will be to continue advancing along the paths that Samsung has already opened in this decade”.
The tenth anniversary of ‘Technology with a Purpose’ brought together nearly 150 people, including representatives of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the Prado Museum, the National Archaeological Museum (MAN) and the Sagrada Familia, as well as the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the ONCE Foundation, the Princess of Girona Foundation or the Luzón Foundation; collaborators and researchers with whom Samsung has worked in these ten years so that Technology plays a fundamental role in improving people’s lives.
SOCIAL IMPACT ON EDUCATION
The company has 37 percent of the investment in these ten years has been allocated to the area of education19 percent by 2022, and has developed initiatives such as Samsung Smart School, or Classroom of the Future, that have been carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
Also, projects like ‘Empathy Subject’ either ‘SDGs to school’ They seek to combat current problems, such as harassment or sustainability. Samsung has also launched an initiative specifically aimed at students with dyslexia, to contribute to their early detection and, in this way, guarantee the adaptation of educational media to their needs.
This is the free and cross-platform application Detective for Samsungdeveloped with Change Dyslexia, for the early detection of dyslexia riskin just 15 minutes and with 90 percent accuracy.
SOCIAL IMPACT ON EMPLOYABILITY
on the ground of employability and entrepreneurshipSamsung has dedicated 19 percent of the investment in these ten years, and 38 percent in 2022, to contribute to training and access to the labor market in disciplines related to technology and STEAM professions.
The projects dedicated to this area have allowed train more than 11,000 peopleand have made it possible for 62 percent of the participants to obtain employment upon completion of the training and 38 percent to improve their skills.
Samsung has established collaborations with universities such as the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Malaga, or the Polytechnic University of Valencia within its program Samsung Innovation Campuswhose objective is to promote learning the latest technologies such as Artificial Intelligence or Big Data and improve the employability of young people.
Another initiative is Developerswhose objective is to promote the talent of Spanish women in the STEAM professions to narrow the gender gap existing in sectors such as programming. The project, launched in 2018, celebrates its fifth call this year with more than a thousand places offered each year, where more than 4,100 women have already been trained.
SOCIAL IMPACT ON CULTURE
Samsung has earmarked 29 percent of their investment in cultural projectswhich rises to 35 percent of that corresponding to this year, which they have developed together with the main institutions of reference in the country, such as the Prado Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Sagrada Familia , the Book Fair, the Teatro Real or PhotoEspaña.
The collaboration between Samsung and the Prado Museum began in 2013 and includes the installation of screens, currently 45, that offer information to visitors. In Room 56 A of the Villanueva building, dedicated to Bosch, the new museographic setup includes a screen that allows you to get closer to the enlarged details of the works.
In the Holy FamilySamsung has installed 16 Neo QLED 8K TVscapable of reproducing a realistic image of the different spaces of the temple, giving greater prominence to the stained glass windows, with a color palette of more than a billion shades.
SOCIAL IMPACT ON WELL-BEING AND ACCESSIBILITY
Talking about accessibility and well-beingSamsung has contributed to raising awareness about the various difficulties faced by certain groups and combat problems of various kinds through the development of initiatives based on technology. For this, it has dedicated 15 percent of its investment in these ten years, and 8 percent in 2022.
Some of these collaborations materialize in the development of tallkan innovative application for tablets that serves as a support for basic communication of people with ALS with his surroundings, avoiding isolation.
The ‘app’, created together with Junto Irisbond and Fundación Luzón, allows patients to control a virtual keyboard with their eyes through an eye tracking system to be able to write and for the text to be later translated into a synthetic voice.
The collaboration with eleven foundation has given rise to initiatives such as the ‘Smart, Accessible and Sustainable Home’, who had a tour of all the cities of Spain and islands. It has also enabled the development of products, such as ‘smartphones’, tablets and televisions, which have obtained accessibility seals.
