Samsung announces Micro LED TVs of only 50 inches and increases the brightness of its QD-OLED

Samsung wasn’t going to let LG get all the attention this CES. The South Korean giant has announced at the Las Vegas fair the renewal of its range of televisions for 2023, which includes extremely interesting launches. We are not going to try to make a summary of everything that has been presented, because the Samsung catalog is endless and we would lose the morning with intermediate models, so we are going to focus on the most important thing: the launch of the first Micro LED models of size “domestic” and refinement of the QD-OLED line.

Starting with the Micro LED grass, Samsung has announced that throughout 2023 it will launch televisions based on this self-emissive technology in sizes from 50 to 140 inches. Specifically, the firm anticipates that we will see models of 50, 63, 76, 89, 101, 114 and 140 inches, when until now it only offered 99 and 110-inch versions.

Specific technical details will be communicated when the time comes, but Samsung anticipates advancements such as 240Hz refresh rate, 20-bit black detail, and a 2 nanosecond response time on its 76-inch model, which should be the company’s flagship. . Unlike previous Micro LED models, this one (and we imagine smaller ones) will be able to be installed without professional help, meaning it uses a single surface rather than multiple interconnected tiles to form a single display.

Micro LED technology, remember, combines the best of OLED and LED. Each pixel is a diode capable of emitting its own light or turning off to generate absolute black, but since it does not use organic components it does not degrade in the long term. You also don’t experience retention or burning issues. The most negative aspect is its price. This is an extremely innovative and complex technology, which is why it is aimed at the highest levels of the market, with rates that comfortably exceed 100,000 euros.

New QD-OLED with 2,000 nits of brightness and improvements for games

On the other hand, Samsung has updated its QD-OLED range, which in 2023 will consist of 34, 49, 55, 65 and 77-inch televisions. These models stand out for the use of a new filter that improves the overall brightness and apparently also the color of the final image, providing brightness peaks of more than 2,000 nits to generate higher quality HDR effects.

As usual, Samsung has not provided all the technical details, but we do know that the new QD-OLED televisions will incorporate next-generation AI-enhanced image processing, a new Dolby Atmos sound system (which is remarkable a priori given the lack of television space, regardless of its actual quality) and features games of a good level. In the specific case of the S95C, we are talking about a response time of 0.1 ms and variable refresh rate at 144 Hz, as well as native Tizen support for GeForce Now and Xbox streaming applications.

Other gaming features built into the 2023 range come on the side of the Game Bar 3.0, which incorporates a virtual crosshair for FPS and something Samsung has dubbed “MiniMap Sharing”, which somehow allows you to see a “map at full size”. reduced from your game on any screen”.
