It seems that Samsung has overcome problems with its 4 nanometer processand has obtained orders from a semiconductor client for AI for data centers. This new series, based on a 4 nanometer process with its own DSP design, will be available for manufacturing at the second half of 2024. This is the first time Samsung has received an order directly from a semiconductor company.
This order, according to what they tell us on Zdnetis based on performance improvement obtained in its 4 nanometer process. Having overcome the problems, it seems that the percentage of performance has increased from 50% to be at the levels of other competitors such as TSMC, with 75% for Samsung. The manufacturer has the Multi Project Wafer service, which allows the printing of various types of semiconductors, under the same manufacturing node, on a wafer. This allows directly print several prototypes, something very useful for companies that design semiconductors, but do not have a factory. The MPW service is only available when performance in the manufacturing node is optimal.
In the same publication they tell us that Samsung, in addition to this order for 4 nanometers, also is receiving large orders for its 5 nanometer process.
