Sam Bankman-Fried to be extradited to the US tonight

() — Sam Bankman-Fried, co-founder of FTX, will be extradited to the United States tonight, Bahamas Attorney General Senator Ryan Pinder has confirmed.

Under questioning by a local magistrate, a scruffy-looking Bankman-Fried confirmed his decision to leave the Bahamas and face charges in the United States at a court hearing in Nassau on Wednesday morning.

“I wish to waive my right to formal extradition proceedings,” Bankman-Fried testified in court.

During the hearing, Bankman-Fried appeared to be holding a plastic bag containing his personal belongings.

He gave his occupation as “entrepreneur and executive” and told the magistrate that his address “was a bit confusing right now.”

This decision paves the way for the co-founder and former CEO of cryptocurrency exchange FTX to return to the US, where he faces 8 counts of fraud and conspiracy following an indictment by federal prosecutors.

He could face up to 115 years in prison if convicted of all eight counts, according to Congress’s statutory maximum sentencing guidelines.
