Salvadorans identified among those killed in US shooting

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador confirmed on Tuesday that two citizens of this country died during a shooting at a shopping center in the US city of Greenwood, Indiana.

“The government of El Salvador expresses its condemnation of the shooting,” said a press release from the Salvadoran Foreign Ministry, which identifies the victims as Pedro Pineda, 56, and his wife Rosa Miriam Rivera de Pineda, 37. Both They were originally from Ahuachapán.

The couple, who worked in construction, had lived in the United States for fifteen years.

The Foreign Ministry reported that representatives of the Salvadoran government are following up on what happened and added that they have already established contact with local authorities to find out if there are more Salvadoran victims.

Three people were killed and two more were injured after a man with a rifle started shooting inside the mall Greenwood Park Sunday afternoon. An armed civilian shot the assailant to death, police said.
