Salvadoran naval force seizes a shipment of 1.5 tons of cocaine on the high seas

The Security Cabinet of El Salvador presented on Sunday a cache of 1.5 tons of cocaine transported by a boat manned by two Ecuadorian men, which was intercepted by naval forces in international waters.

The Minister of National Defense, Vice Admiral Francis Merino Monroy, explained in a press conference that the seizure of the cache was carried out 1,050 nautical miles from the Salvadoran coast, the most distant location recorded by the Tridente Task Force that operates in international waters pursuing to drug traffickers.

Merino Monroy stated that, in the year 2024, El Salvador has seized 16.7 tons of this drug, valued at 428.4 million dollars.

For his part, the Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro, assured that “this small country and with the bravery of these brave sailors, we are demonstrating to the world and the American continent our firm decision to fight against drug trafficking.”

The drugs, the boat with three outboard motors and the two Ecuadorians were taken into custody of the Public Ministry to begin the criminal process in the judicial courts.
