The Argentine ambassador to China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, highlighted the growing role of the Asian country’s domestic market in the recovery of the global economy, while touring the Argentine pavilion at the 5th edition of the China International Import and Export Fair (CIIE, for its acronym in English), which takes place in the city of Shanghai until Thursday 10.
“The CIIE is a global strategic positioning platform through which it is possible to consolidate our country brand: we must make the most of this historic possibility,” said Vaca Narvaja, referring to the Argentine presence, which this year doubles in number of companies. of the previous edition and, for the first time, the country has a space to promote the services sector based on knowledge and technology.
The national delegation, coordinated by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, through the Argentine Investment and International Trade Agency (AAICI), attends with 20 companies from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Salta, and the City of Buenos Aires, belonging to to the food and beverage category (wine, meat and fish).
The Argentine pavilion, which is organized by the Embassy and the Consulate in Shanghai, adds up to a total of 340 m2 and has a variety of national technological offerings that range from low-cost satellites to intelligent construction systems, including solutions digital for energy, medicine and agriculture. On the other hand, the food and beverage stand had a large number of wineries that offered their wines to visitors to the fair as well as several food companies where all the regional economies of our country were represented.
“In each new edition we actively accompany Argentine companies so that they can be participating in the fair, with the expectation that they can diversify and increase their exportable offer, which helps us strengthen our foreign exchange position. The objective of the Embassy is always that the fair is an opportunity to present other products that transcend the products that we traditionally export to China, such as wine. For this reason, an outstanding achievement of this edition is the participation for the first time with a national pavilion in the services sector, with the promotion of products linked to the technology and communications sector”, said Vaca Narvaja.

We have done it successfully in the last two editions of the CIFTIS and CIFIT fairs”.
During a subsequent conference, Ambassador Vaca Narvaja was asked about the challenges that the new international conflicts pose for the countries. “The international context of recent years has confronted us with the need for an open, active and supportive attitude that prioritizes economic cooperation and the predictability of our economic ties. China, due to its large consumer market, has a fundamental role in the recovery of the global economy, in general, and of developing countries in particular,” the diplomat replied.
During the opening of the fair, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that “China will work with all countries to share the opportunities that arise in its vast market.” He also said that his government will establish “pilot zones for cooperation in e-commerce of the Silk Road and build national demonstration zones for the innovative development of trade in services, in order to encourage innovation in trade and promote the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.” The Argentine Embassy in China reported that as our country is part of this mechanism, signed at the beginning of this year in Beijing during the presidential visit of Alberto Fernández, it will be able to benefit from these policies in the short term.
China is Argentina’s second largest trading partner. Exports to the Asian country have an upward trend, which makes it one of the main destinations for Argentine exports. According to official data, the main products that Argentina offers to China are those derived from soybeans, meat, wine and seafood. Argentina is one of the main suppliers of wine to China, occupying tenth place, and standing out for showing an upward trend in recent years, with an increase in exports of more than 50%.
With an Argentine presence since its first edition, CIIE offers exporters the possibility of reaching a market with more than 1,400 million consumers.
