The United States mission to the UN affirmed this Tuesday during a session at the United Nations Security Council that the accusations made by Russia against Washington regarding its involvement in the leaks from the Nord Stream gas pipeline are “completely false”.
“The competent authorities of Denmark, Germany and Sweden are investigating these incidents in a comprehensive, transparent and impartial manner,” a representative of the US mission to the UN said at the session, adding that Moscow has raised the meeting to “change the subject ” for the one-year anniversary of the Ukrainian war.
In this sense, he has accused Russia of giving rise to “Internet conspiracy theories.” “Russia once again abuses its position as a permanent member of the Security Council by using this session as a platform for disinformation,” she added.
Thus, he has described as “regrettable” that this issue is being dealt with in the open crises that exist in the Security Council, such as the launch of the latest ballistic missiles from North Korea, the tensions in the Middle East or the humanitarian crisis in Turkey. and Syria after the earthquakes.
Moscow requested on February 15 a meeting in the UN Security Council for this Tuesday in order to address the explosions in the Nord Stream gas pipeline after the publication of the journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh, which pointed directly to the United States of being behind the sabotage.
According to Hersh, divers from the United States Navy would have been responsible for the alleged sabotage, since they would have placed explosives during the ‘Baltops 22’ maneuvers of the Atlantic Alliance. “Three months later they destroyed three of the four branches of the gas pipeline,” the journalist said.
On September 26, Nord Stream 2 AG, operator of the Russian gas pipeline of the same name, announced a gas leak due to unknown causes in one of the two infrastructure pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm.
Subsequently, the authorities reported that two branches of the parallel Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline had also suffered damage. Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out an act of sabotage just eight months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
