Russian troops report Putin of the "beginning of the final stage" of the counteroffensive in Kursk

Madrid 13 (Europa Press) –

The Kremlin has confirmed on Monday that the Russian troops have informed the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, of the “beginning of the final stage” of the counteroffensive in the Kursk region, which since August 2024 had been the subject of a military offensive launched by Ukraine and that until now served kyiv as a currency in some possible negotiations.

The spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dimitri Peskov, explained that “Putin has heard the reports of the commander and subcomandante” in Kursk “about the progress of the operation, as well as the beginning of the final stage of the operation to release the territory of the militants who have entrenched there,” according to the Interfax news agency.

Putin visited on the eve a military base of the Kursk region, where he met with the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Gerashimov. From there he thanked the divisions that have participated in the counteroffensive, where they have caused casualties to more than 67,000 Ukrainian military. As he said, the objective now involves completely expeling Ukrainian troops.

The Russian head of state showed the need to implement a “security zone along the border” and warned that both the Ukrainians and the “foreign mercenaries” will be treated as terrorists, since for Moscow all that person who opposes the Russian laws, to the orders of the army and those who commit crimes are considered as such.

The Ukraine Armed Forces launched an offensive against the Kursk region at the beginning of 2024 with the aim of counterattacking Moscow in the middle of the war initiated by Putin in February 2022. kyiv came to have under control about 1,200 square kilometers and more than a hundred localities.

Russia had to divert his attention from the Front in Ukrainian territory to expel the enemy troops that had been housed in their lands. This caused the war in Ukraine to enter a period of stagnation, with practically invariable fronts and without peace negotiations in sight.

However, this last matter changed with Donald Trump’s return to the presidency of the United States. The tycoon had promised that he would solve the war with just a phone call and, although this has not finished happening, Ukraine has accepted a proposal of high temporal fire that now has to receive ‘green light’ from Russia.
