July 18 () –
The Russian state monopoly for gas exports, Gazprom, set a new historical record on Sunday in its daily shipment of fuel to China, coinciding with the difficulties that gas supplies are experiencing for its European customers.
“On July 17, a new historical record was set for the daily volume of Russian gas supply to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline,” Gazprom reported, stressing that gas deliveries to the Asian giant are made under a long-term contract between Gazprom and China’s CNPC.
According to data from the semi-annual report of the Russian company, between January and June 2022, gas exports to China through the pipeline had increased by 63.4%, to 7,500 million cubic meters.
Russia sells to China gas from fields in eastern Siberia, which are not connected to its gas pipelines to the west, although Gazprom is working on the construction of an interconnector that in the future could allow it to redirect gas from its European neighbors to new clients in Asia.
