Russia continues with its particular escalation of tension with the West. The NATO has warned that Two Russian fighters flew over Alliance ships in the Baltic Sea last Thursdayin a “dangerous and unprofessional” manner.
Russian planes approached the ships at an altitude of 300 feet (91 meters) and a distance of 80 yards (73 meters) without their pilots responding to communications, the Atlantic Alliance has indicated in a statement.
“On the morning of November 17, two Russian warplanes unsafely and unprofessionally approached Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1)which was conducting routine operations in the Baltic Sea,” the statement explained.

“The Russian pilots did not respond to the permanent consultation communications from the allied forces and flew over at an altitude of 300 feet and a distance of 80 yards,” he detailed.
NATO qualifies that “unsafe and unprofessional” “interaction” as it took place in a known danger zone”which has been activated for air defense training, “and due to the altitude and proximity of the aircraft.”
The happened “increased the risk of miscalculations, errors and accidents”, explained the Alliance. “NATO forces acted responsibly, carrying out their mission, in full compliance with international air and maritime regulations,” the organization said in its statement.

The Alliance has warned that “will respond appropriately to any interference with lawful NATO activity in the area that endangers the safety of our aircraft, ships or their crews”.
