Russian authorities urge the population of Kurgan to evacuate the area before their homes flood

April 12 () –

The presidential envoy in the Ural Federal District, Vladimir Yakushev, has called on the population of Kurgan to leave the area before the floods recorded in recent days in the area flood their homes.

Yakushev has insisted on the need to heed the warnings issued by local authorities. “We need to pay attention to the notifications that are arriving. The main thing is not to be at home and not wait for them to flood, we have to get out of them on time,” he said.

The Russian leader has indicated that, during a meeting with local authorities, President Vladimir Putin has ordered that the security of people and material assets be guaranteed in the area, located in southern Russia near the border with Kazakhstan, according to the TASS agency.

The heavy floods recorded in recent days in southwestern Russia and northern Kazakhstan endanger the lives of thousands of people after the evacuation of around 100,000 residents in Russian territory was ordered due to what has become already in the worst floods in more than six decades.

The rapid thaw has caused several large rivers that run through Kurgan and Tyumen to overflow, while several towns in the Ural Mountains, Siberia and areas of Kazakhstan near the Ural and Tobol rivers have suffered damage, according to local authorities.
