Russian air defense intercepts 85 Ukrainian drones throughout the country, most over the Black Sea

MADRID Jan. 11 () –

The air defense forces of the Russian Army have intercepted a total of 85 drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over different regions of the country, most of them over the Black Sea, during the early hours of this Saturday, Russian authorities have reported.

“Over the past night, service air defense systems have intercepted and destroyed 85 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a message broadcast via Telegram.

Defense has clarified that 31 of these drones have been destroyed over the Black Sea, 17 over the territories of the Voronezh and Krasnodar regions, another 14 over the Sea of Azov, four in Belgorod, two more over Tambov and one in the territory of the Republic of Crimea and the Kursk region.

These attacks come after the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a new wave of attacks last night against military facilities that were “passing off as normal factories” in Russian territory, one for drone production in Rostov and another in Leningrad, causing Major fires in an industrial zone in Gatchina, Leningrad.

Since its partners gave the go-ahead to fire at targets on Russian territory, Ukraine has intensified its attacks beyond the border regions. Thus, for example, this Wednesday, it already bombed an oil depot in the city of Engels, in the Saratov region.

The war in Ukraine broke out almost three years ago, when at the end of February 2022 the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, gave the order to militarily invade his neighboring country. Since then the conflict has progressed without apparent continuity and with the battle front lines stagnant.
