Russia warns Europe it could be 'in the crosshairs' if it agrees to US missile deployment

13 Jul. () –

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Saturday that Europe could be “in the crosshairs” if it accepts the deployment of US missiles on its territory, in a clear reference to Germany.

“The United States continues to make money. Europe is in the crosshairs of our missiles. Our country is in the crosshairs of American missiles deployed in Europe. We have already been through this (…). We have enough potential to contain these missiles, but the potential victims are the capitals of these states,” Peskov argued, according to the Russian broadcaster RBC.

Peskov also recalled that “Russia has always responded” to the deployment of US long-range missiles in Europe by pointing to the host countries as possible targets, which he described as “paradoxical.”

On July 10, the United States announced the “episodic” deployment of long-range missiles in Germany, such as the SM-6 Tomahawk missiles, as well as hypersonic weapons still in development that have a greater range than the projectiles currently deployed.
