Day 259 of war in Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, prepares his compatriots for new attacks on energy infrastructures and calls for resistance. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaly Klitschko, has sent a message to his fellow citizens that is not at all optimistic. He asks them to “consider everything”, including the worst case scenario, in which the capital runs out of water and electricity, in which case residents should “spend some time” with family or friends in another city. “Your task from him is that we die, freeze or flee from our land so that he can have it,” Klitschko has said of Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin.
It is how Putin tries to impose himself, unable to do so on the ground. In fact, he is close to losing the city of Jersón, in a final battle that is foreseen very soon. Ukraine wants to win, not to negotiate with those who are deliberately causing so much damage, but allies of such weight as the United States try to convince to address the end of the conflict. United States National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivanhas personally promised Zelenski the “unwavering” support of Washington, but has also advised him to open up to dialogue with Moscow.
