The meeting held this Wednesday in Istanbul between representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations has resulted in the joint agreement to promote a coordination center dedicated to the export of grain for Ukrainian ports.

This is why the Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, has valued that the meeting was conducted in a “positive and constructive” manner, while detailing that the agreement sets a series of “basic technical aspects” to the control of food shipments through the Black Sea, as well as guaranteeing their safety on shipping routes.

Within the framework of this agreement, the Russian and Ukrainian parties have agreed to hold a new meeting next week, also with Turkey as the stage, to review the details again and finally ratify the pact reached on Wednesday.

The highest representative of the UN has emphasized that the ultimate goal of the meeting is not only an agreement for Russia and Ukraine, but “an agreement for the world”, with which said meeting is “an important step (…) in the road to a global agreement”.

Finally, Guterres stressed that the parties must “do more for the struggling people and developing countries, which are hit by a food, energy and financial crisis that is not their fault.”

The Turkish Defense Minister hosted this meeting in Istanbul, which was attended by his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, Sergei Shoigu and Oleksiy Reznikov, respectively, as well as a United Nations delegation.
