Russia threatens not to extend the international agreement for the export of grain from Ukraine

Russia’s Defense Ministry has threatened to end the international agreement guaranteeing the export of Ukrainian grain as part of the war, accusing Kiev of breaching it by shelling Russian-controlled positions in the Black Sea.

“On March 23 and April 24 of this year, in violation of these guarantees, Ukraine launched repeated attacks against the Black Sea Fleet base in the city of Sevastopol and against the civilian infrastructure of Crimea with unmanned ships.” , has denounced Russia through a statement.

“Analysis of the route of the Ukrainian drones showed that they were all launched from the water of the Odessa port, designated for the implementation of the ‘Black Sea Initiative’. Their deployment was carried out in an area of ​​the humanitarian corridor , also involved in the export of agricultural products from the ports of Ukraine,” the statement continued.

Thus, Russia has accused Ukraine of using the safe ports involved in the grain export agreement for military work, warning that “the terrorist actions of the Kiev regime endanger the next extension of the grain agreement”, which Moscow dates on the 18th of May.

Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement on July 22, 2022 after mediation by Turkey and the United Nations to unblock the export of grain and fertilizers, a pact that was briefly interrupted by Moscow’s accusations against Kiev for alleged threats to the security of the corridor. Finally, Moscow announced its return to the agreement after citing Ukrainian “guarantees”, although kyiv denied having made any concessions.

Finally, Russia announced in March a 60-day extension to the agreement, although the United Nations and Ukraine recalled that the clauses of the pact contemplated an extension of 120 days.
