The Russian authorities reported this Wednesday that the Armed Forces have taken control of the Ukrainian town of Klichtchiivka, located in the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk and which was recovered by Ukrainian troops during the summer of 2023.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement that the Army has managed to stop the counterattack by the Ukrainian forces and has explained that the assault on the city has resulted in some 130 Ukrainian troops dead and the loss of two vehicles. “As a result of these actions, the Russian southern command has managed to liberate Klichtchiivka, in Donetsk,” the text states.

However, despite these small victories within the framework of the invasion, Russia has not managed to make real progress on the front. According to the authorities, the town in question – located just 5 kilometers from Bakhmut – is in ruins due to the fighting of the last year.

For their part, the Ukrainian authorities have insisted on the importance of continuing to receive help from the international community – and especially from the United States – to be able to confront the Russian offensive after more than two years of war.
