The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced the suspension of the agreement for the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea ports in retaliation for the “terrorist attack” this Saturday against ships of the Black Sea Fleet based in the port of Sevastopol.

“Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of agreements for the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports,” the Defense Ministry reported, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

THE AGREEMENT HAS SAVED 100 MILLION FROM POVERTY

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, recalled on Friday the “unwavering” support of his organization for the indirect agreement reached in July between Russia and Ukraine to allow the export of grain from the ports of the Black Sea, a pact that has saved 100 million people fall into extreme poverty.

The agreement, accompanied by a permit for the export of Russian fertilizers, was aimed at avoiding “a global food crisis” that the United Nations is doing everything possible to avoid.

The ships cross the Black Sea to Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait, where a joint coordination center has been established in Istanbul, including representatives from the UN, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey to ensure that ships entering Ukraine do not carry weapons or combat material.
