The Russian ambassador to the United Kingdom says that voices are growing in the country advocating “avoiding further escalation” in Ukraine
Nov 29. () –
The Russian ambassador in London, Andrei Kelin, assured this Friday that the Oreshnik missiles, the new model of medium-range projectiles manufactured by Moscow and already tested in Ukrainian territory, have raised some concern among the British population despite the efforts of the Government to avoid it.
“The use of Oreshnik has really made a serious impression on the local population, I would even say too much,” said the Russian ambassador in statements to the Russia-24 television network, where he reported that Downing Street has made every effort to try to “send reassuring signals.”
The Russian ambassador has indicated that in recent days the Government of the United Kingdom has reported that it was aware of Russia’s intentions to test the Oreshnik missile on Ukrainian territory. In fact, the tests were such a success for the Kremlin that Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered mass production of the missile.
“However, the trick has not worked,” stated Kelin, who assures that both the local British press and social networks “were immediately filled with apocalyptic headlines” from which it was deduced that Moscow’s use of Oreshnik It was a consequence of Washington, London and Paris having given their approval to kyiv to attack Russian territory with long-range missiles.
Thus, the Russian ambassador has pointed out that President Putin’s warning messages are “reproduced in detail” in the British press, meaning that, “in this context in the United Kingdom, perhaps for the first time, they have begun to sound very clearly the calls to avoid further escalation.
