The Russian Human Rights Commissioner, Tatiana Moskalkova, confirmed on Monday that the Russian authorities have returned to Ukrainian territory five members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces wounded and captured by the Russian side.

“Today, five wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been repatriated. We continue to work in this direction,” said the Russian commissioner for Human Rights, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

As Moskalkova has highlighted, this handover of prisoners of war is in response to a similar step taken at the end of March by the Ukrainian authorities, who sent back to Moscow five Russians who had been wounded in the war.

Moskalkova has recently been in talks with the Ukrainian ombudsman, Dimitri Lubinets, with whom she agreed to collaborate to exchange a list of seriously injured prisoners of war.
