MADRID 14 Oct. () –
The Russian Embassy in Norway has announced a reduction in its accredited diplomatic staff at the request of the Norwegian authorities, according to a statement published on social networks.
Oslo has given Russia three days to reduce its consular staff to just two diplomats, according to the Russian statement posted on Facebook.
“At the request of the Norwegian side to reduce the diplomatic staff of the Embassy before October 17, 2024, only two diplomats will remain in the consular department,” the diplomatic legation has indicated.
A spokesperson for the Norwegian Government, Ragnhild Häland Simenstad, confirmed to the Norwegian news agency NTB that the Norwegian authorities have maintained contacts with Russia “to guarantee diplomatic presence in both countries.” The objective, he explained, is not to “expel diplomats” from Norway.
