MADRID Dec. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Russian Foreign Ministry conveyed its condolences this Thursday for the death of the Taliban Minister of Refugees and Returnees, Jalil Rahman Haqqani, in an attack carried out on Wednesday by the Islamic State, and stressed that this event is “a reaction” by the jihadists to the measures adopted against them by the Afghan authorities.
Russian diplomacy has released a statement in which it has shown its “concern” over the death of Haqqani in this “terrorist attack” by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), the group’s Afghan affiliate, and has underlined the importance of “Those involved in the crime are identified and receive a well-deserved punishment.”
“The increase in subversive activities of the Islamic State in Afghanistan is a reaction of this international terrorist organization to the forceful measures taken against it by the Afghan government. Russia stands in solidarity with Afghan anti-terrorist efforts and intends to provide them with the necessary assistance” , has riveted Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left three others dead and was carried out by a suicide bomber when Haqqani was leaving a mosque in the capital. The attacker, who was waiting for him at the exit, activated his explosive-laden vest.
Haqqani was appointed Minister of Refugees in September 2021, after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan a month earlier. He is the uncle of Sirajudin Haqqani, Minister of the Interior and leader of the Haqqani network, an organization closely linked to the Taliban and an essential apparatus in the combat supply chain during the war, as well as the brother of Jalaludin Haqqani.
The jihadist group considers the Taliban traitors to Sharia orthodoxy and defends an even harsher interpretation, which is why it has carried out dozens of attacks in Afghanistan since the group came to power in August 2021 after fleeing. of the then president, Ashraf Ghani. For its part, Russia is considered one of the allies of the Taliban regime, although Moscow denies this.
