Russia investigates RSF downing of cargo plane in Sudan

MADRID 21 Oct. () –

The Russian Embassy in Sudan indicated this Monday that it is investigating the possible downing of a cargo plane by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur in an incident confirmed by the paramilitary group itself in its information channels.

The Russian authorities have detailed that, according to the information they have, the RSF points to the possibility that there were Russians among the crew. Moscow is investigating to “clarify the circumstances of this incident.”

The Russian Embassy has acknowledged on its Telegram channel that the situation “is complicated” by the fact that the incident occurred in the Darfur region, the epicenter of the hostilities of the war in Sudan, which has been unleashed for more than a year. year and a half.

This information from the Russian diplomatic mission comes after the RSF itself announced the downing of an aircraft. Initially the group targeted a possible fighter plane, although it later indicated that it had mistakenly shot down a cargo plane, according to the monitoring platform Sudan War Monitor.

The Sudanese Army and the RSF paramilitaries have been fighting since April 15 of last year in a conflict that has devastated the country and fueled historical tribal tensions in the Darfur region, in the west of the African nation.
