Iran joins the international condemnations and speaks of a “coup against the pillars of Bolivian democracy”

The Russian Government has “firmly” condemned this Thursday the attempted coup d’état in Bolivia and has shown its “unwavering” support for the president of the South American country, Luis Arce, hours after the arrest of General Juan José Zúñiga, who during the Wednesday led an attempted military uprising.
“We firmly condemn the attempted military coup in Bolivia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its Telegram account. “We express our total and unwavering support for the Government of the president, Luis Arce,” he added.
Thus, he has maintained that Moscow “considers it unacceptable that the situation goes beyond the constitutional framework” and has stressed that “a political agreement to any internal political difference is imperative”, for which he has asked “all constructive political forces and structures of Bolivia to unite in the interest of consolidating society, guaranteeing stability and sovereignty”.
“We warn against attempts at destructive foreign interference in the internal affairs of Bolivia and other States, which has led on more than one occasion to tragic consequences for several countries and peoples, also in the Latin American region,” the statement stressed. The Iranian government has joined in condemning the attack, calling it a “coup against the pillars of democracy” and an “assault on the democratic institutions of the legal government of Bolivia.”

Subsequently, Zúñiga assured that Arce had asked him to take out “the armored vehicles” to “raise” the popularity of the Bolivian president, who had confessed to him that the “situation is very screwed up.” The Attorney General’s Office of Bolivia has already announced the opening of an investigation against both Zúñiga and all the soldiers involved in the attempt.
