Russia has denounced this Monday the “alarming” situation in the north of Kosovo with a Serb majority and has accused the United States and its allies of forcing an open conflict.

“We are alarmed by the worsening of the situation around Kosovo, in which the so-called authorities in Pristina are once again deliberately stirring up tension in the face of inaction or even with the direct support of their sponsors in Washington and their European allies,” he said. affirmed the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zajarova, in statements collected by the Russian news agency TASS.

Thus, Zajarova has referred to the “provocations” of the “Kosovar Albanian radicals” with which “the West is deliberately forcing the situation to turn it into an open conflict.”

The EU, authorized by the UN General Assembly to mediate between Belgrade and Pristina “does not want or cannot resolve the situation”, while Belgrade “demonstrates a constructive stance and asks to resolve the problems through dialogue and by applying pre-existing agreements”, according to Zakharova.

In addition, Moscow has backed the decision of Kosovar Serbs to withdraw from Kosovar institutions, including the Police, in protest of Pristina’s intention to impose Kosovar license plates and stop recognizing Serb license plates and Pristina’s unwillingness to create the Community. of Serbian Municipalities provided for in the signed agreements.
