September 1 () –
The operational centre for the rescue of the 22 occupants of the Mi-8 helicopter that crashed on Saturday on the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka, in the far east of the country, has estimated that the incident has left no survivors.
“Preliminary information and judging by the state of the wreckage shows that none of the crew members (three) and their passengers (19) have survived,” according to a statement reported by the Russian agency Interfax.
After several hours of searching for the wreckage, hampered by dense fog, emergency services finally found the destroyed fuselage on a hill at an altitude of about 900 metres, near the last point of contact between the crew and the authorities before the accident, which is still under investigation.
