The Russian authorities have described as a “terrorist act” an attack perpetrated this Wednesday against the Russian Center for Science and Culture located in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, as it is a “civilian and peaceful” building.
According to the head of the Federal Agency for Collaboration Affairs –Rossotrudnichestvo–, Evgeni Primakov, the attack was intended to “not only cause damage” but also “intimidate” the institution’s employees, the news agency reports. TASS.
Around noon this Wednesday there was a fire in the aforementioned building which, however, was put out some time later without having to regret any casualties, although material damage has been recorded.
According to Primakov, the center’s director, Alina Radchenko, has verified that after the fire broke out, a Ukrainian flag was hung in a nearby building. “I think this is some kind of signature,” Primakov said.
“Even if these are not the same people who committed this terrorist act, there was a certain Ukrainian pride in it,” said the head of Rossotrudnichestvo, who has asserted that Russia “is not going to close” the Center for Science and Culture.
