Pro-Russian authorities in the eastern Ukrainian province of Donetsk, under Russian administration, reported on Thursday the death of a civilian as a result of a missile attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was confirmed by the Moscow-appointed mayor of the city of Donetsk, capital of the province of the same name, Alexei Kilemzin, who detailed on his official Telegram channel that the deceased was a man of about 50 years old.

In recent months, pro-Russian authorities have reported the deaths of dozens of civilians as a result of attacks by Ukraine’s own armed forces on their territory, which is de facto controlled by Russian forces.

The war in Ukraine broke out in late February 2022 after Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order to invade his neighbouring country. In September of the same year, Moscow annexed the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia following referendums not recognised by the international community.
