9 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, criticized this Sunday the “hysterical” reaction of the United States and its allies to the recently announced agreement for the construction of silos for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, a Russian ally.

“Right now it’s a very important issue. There is an unmeasured reaction from the West to President (Vladimir) Putin’s announcements, (but) they are not inclined to remember the issue of US nuclear weapons that are here in Europe around our country,” Peskov said in statements to the Rossiya1 public television channel, according to the Interfax news agency.

“They are inclined towards a hysterical reaction to our plans to build storage silos for tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” he argued.

Peskov has also pointed out that the shipment of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus does not imply any type of adjustment in the Russian Nuclear Deterrence Strategy and has explained that the shipment of these weapons is a response to NATO’s approach to the Russian borders.

Belarus has had Iskander tactical missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads for months, but now Russia has announced its intention to send up to ten nuclear-capable combat aircraft deployed to Belarusian territory and the construction of silos for the storage of tactical nuclear weapons. .
