The pro-Russian authorities of the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, have announced on Monday that they have taken control of the town of Bajmutske, south of Soledar, in their advance towards the city of Bajmut, which is for kyiv a symbol of the “indomitability” of the country.

“Today, January 9, 2023, Bajmutske has been released in the Donetsk territory by the Russian Armed Forces,” the Army said in a message on its Telegram account.

The Russian forces thus continue their operations with the aim of finally seeing Bakhmut fall despite the failed attempts to take over the area so far.

This city has recently become one of the hottest points in the conflict in Ukraine. The kyiv authorities have repeatedly detailed that it is in Bakhmut that Russia is now concentrating almost all its efforts in order to take the town.
