The Russian government announced on Wednesday a new set of sanctions against 92 US citizens who will now be banned from entering Russian territory; a list that includes the names of military commanders and journalists from the newspapers ‘The New York Times’, ‘The Washington Post’ and ‘Wall Street Journal’.
Moscow wants to punish the “Russophobic” drift that it attributes to Joe Biden’s administration by targeting officials it considers complicit with Volodymyr Zelensky’s “regime” in kyiv and media outlets that have contributed to the dissemination of allegedly false information relating to Russia and the open conflict in Ukraine.
In the military sphere, the people banned by the Russian Foreign Ministry include commanders of the US Aerospace Forces, while the list also includes academics, prosecutors and executives of companies linked to the defence sector.
Washington and Moscow have exchanged such measures following the definitive break in political relations caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned in its note on Wednesday that it will continue to expand the list of sanctions as long as the United States persists in its current position.
