MADRID 27 Nov. () –

The Russian authorities have applauded this Wednesday the ceasefire agreement between the Government of Israel and the Lebanese party-militia Hezbollah and have asked that it be “truly effective” to prevent the conflict from continuing to spread in the region.

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova, has applauded the measure and has urged decisions to be taken that will put an end to the “bloodshed” in Lebanese territory. “We positively welcome any agreement, potential or concluded, that stops the spiral of violence,” he stated.

“This must really work,” he said during a press conference in which he indicated that Russia “hopes for sustainable stabilization at the political and military level in Lebanon and throughout the Middle East.”

However, he stressed that this requires “exhaustive and fair solutions that guarantee a balance of interests and security between all parties involved in the conflict.” “We have repeated on numerous occasions that all this must be developed in accordance with International Law, taking into account the decisions previously adopted by relevant organizations, mainly the UN,” he said.

Zajarova has thus regretted that despite the efforts of the international community “the situation within the framework of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and its ramifications in other parts of the Middle East continue to deteriorate at this point.”

The ceasefire agreement came into force at 4:00 a.m. (local time), following the announcement made on Tuesday by the president of the United States, Joe Biden, that the parties had accepted the proposal conveyed by Washington.

Israel launched a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after more than eleven months of fighting with the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah on the border, following the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). and other Palestinian factions against Israeli territory.
