Russia announces the expulsion of 20 German diplomats from the country

22 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Russian Government has announced this Saturday the expulsion of about twenty German diplomats from the country in a reciprocal measure after a previous decision adopted by Berlin on the Russian diplomatic presence in Germany.

“In reaction to the hostile acts of Berlin, the Russian side has decided to take a symmetrical measure with the expulsion of German diplomats from Russia,” according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry collected by the Interfax agency.

Likewise, Russia has decided to “limit” the number of employees in German diplomatic missions within the country, a measure of which the German ambassador in the country, Geza Andreas von Geyr, has already been notified.

This same Saturday, Russia accused Germany of expelling an unspecified number of Russian diplomats from the country before accusing Berlin of “destroying a whole spectrum of Russian-German relations, including their diplomatic dimension.”

However, the German magazine Focus already advanced at the end of the month, citing close sources, that Germany intended to expel 30 Russian diplomats accused of “recruiting informants” for the Kremlin inside Germany.

In this sense, Moscow has made ugly the attitude exhibited by Germany regarding this entire crisis. “It is significant that the German side, despite the fact that it assured us that it had no intention of publicizing this whole story, has ended up using ‘controlled leaks’ and disinformation,” she denounced.
